Cosmetic Surgery - Chin Surgery/Mentoplasty
Either implantation or cervical (neck) liposuction or a combination can be used to provide facial balance and harmony. (Bone anatomy can be an issue and can be addressed. CT scan analysis is available in our office.)
Chin Surgery is a technique of repositioning your chin to achieve the desired esthetic result. Chin augmentation has helped thousands of people improve their appearance by altering their facial contours. Good candidates for chin surgery are those with a receding chin and a normal dental bite. If bite dysfunction is evident, corrective jaw (orthognathic) surgery may be necessary in conjunction with mentoplasty.
The first step in this process is for Dr. Hanson to perform a comprehensive exam of your face. During this visit, one or a combination of specialized cephlaometric x-rays, panoramic x-rays and/or a 3-D CT scan will be taken along with digital photographs.
After these diagnostic records are reviewed, a follow-up consultation will be made. At this time Dr. Hanson will present his recommendations for your chin surgery. This will include facial/chin predication tracings to illustrate your projected esthetic surgical result. Dr. Hanson will make a decision to either surgically move the chin bone forward, or use a plastic chin implant (prothesis) to achieve the desired results.
Surgery
It is important not to eat or drink anything for eight hours prior to your procedure and to have a driver with you to bring you home. You will be provided with written, post-operative instructions and spandex-type pressure dressing to control swelling during the first 48 hours. We will prescribe medication to relieve any minor discomfort during the immediate post-operative period. You will be seen again for a routine follow-up visit in approximately seven to 10 days after the surgery.
Insurance
Your insurance company may pay for all or part of the costs associated with your surgery if the condition impairs normal jaw function. It is recommended that you check with your carrier to determine if there is coverage.
