Suction removal of facial fat is done either as a separate procedure or can be combined with other cosmetic procedures. Fat located in the jowl or cheek areas is usually removed through a very small incision just in front of the earlobe. A special fat extractor is placed beneath the skin in these areas, and the fat is removed with high-powered suction.
For fat accumulations in the neck and chin area, the incision is made just below the chin, and the fat is then extracted from the entire area.
For fat accumulations over the cheek area, a small incision is made just in front of the earlobe.
These procedures may be done under local anesthesia or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of surgery. Following the operative procedure, either special tape is applied or a facial elastic garment is worn for a short time.
Patients having excessively wrinkled and loosely hanging skin must have a combined procedure of facial fat suction and a facelift. Combining suction with facelift decreases the operating time necessary for a facelift alone. With the removal of fat in these areas, the facelift operation gives a much finer and more youthful post-operative appearance. The use of fat suction in these areas has greatly reduced the surgical time and the need for excessive surgical procedures to remove the fat. Facial fat extraction can be done in both male and females. This procedure is also a very safe one.
